Gold rate — frequently asked questions

Why do the 22K, 18K and 14K gold rates change when 24K does?

We track only the 24K (999, fine gold) rate as our verified figure. The 22K, 18K and 14K rates shown are computed from it using standard BIS hallmark fineness ratios (916, 750 and 585 parts per 1000 respectively) — they move in exact proportion to the 24K rate, not as independently tracked prices.

Does the gold rate shown include GST and making charges?

No. The rate is the indicative metal price per gram only, excluding the 3% GST charged on gold purchases and any making charges a jeweller adds for jewellery. Your final bill at a jeweller will be higher than the rate shown here.

Where does CalcNSave source its gold rate from?

Rates are sourced from IBJA (India Bullion and Jewellers Association), the industry benchmark referenced for Sovereign Gold Bond pricing. Each rate we publish is dated to the day it was verified — we never show an estimated or backdated figure.

Is 24K gold the same as what jewellers sell?

24K (999 purity) is the purest, softest form of gold and is mainly used for coins and bars, not everyday jewellery — jewellery is usually made in 22K or lower because pure gold is too soft to hold its shape well. That's why we show all four purities, not just 24K.
