Understand silver as an asset
Silver rate — frequently asked questions
What purity is the silver rate shown here?
999 (fine silver) — the standard purity used for investment-grade silver bars and coins in India. We track only this purity; jewellery-grade silver (usually 925, "sterling silver") will price differently.
Does the silver rate include GST and making charges?
No. The rate is the indicative metal price per gram only, excluding the 3% GST charged on silver purchases and any making charges a jeweller or dealer adds for coins, bars or jewellery.
Why is silver more volatile than gold?
Silver has both investment demand and significant industrial demand (electronics, solar panels, electrical contacts), so its price reacts to industrial-cycle news in a way gold's largely doesn't — this dual demand tends to make silver swing harder than gold in both directions.
